We're excited to announce that the Sober Tracker website has been completely redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up. If you've visited our site recently, you might have noticed things look a bit different—and work a lot smoother.
From Static HTML to Modern Technology
Our previous website was built with static HTML. It served us well in the beginning, but as our app grew and our community expanded across the globe, we needed something more powerful and flexible.
We've now rebuilt the entire site using Next.js, a modern React framework that powers some of the biggest websites on the internet. This isn't just a visual refresh—it's a complete technical overhaul that brings significant improvements to your experience.
What's New and Improved
Lightning-Fast Performance
The new site loads significantly faster than before. Thanks to Next.js's optimized image loading, code splitting, and server-side rendering, pages load almost instantly. Whether you're on a fast connection or mobile data, you'll notice the difference.
Multi-Language Support
One of the biggest additions is full internationalization. The website is now available in:
- English
- Spanish (Español)
- Russian (Русский)
- Portuguese (Português)
- Japanese (日本語)
- Chinese (中文)
We built this with our global community in mind. Recovery doesn't have borders, and neither should the resources that support it.
Better Mobile Experience
While our old site worked on mobile, the new design is truly mobile-first. Every element, from the navigation menu to the screenshot carousel, has been optimized for touch screens and smaller displays.
Interactive Features
We've added several interactive elements that showcase what the Sober Tracker app can do:
- Screenshot Carousel: Browse through actual app screenshots in a realistic phone mockup
- Sobriety Garden Preview: See how the virtual garden feature works
- Financial Calculator: Estimate how much money you could save by staying sober
Improved Blog Experience
You're reading this on our redesigned blog. We've improved the reading experience with better typography, faster loading times, and easier navigation between articles.
Why We Made This Change
Building a website from scratch is a significant undertaking. So why did we do it?
Growing Global Community
Our app is used by people around the world. We received requests for language support, and building proper internationalization into a static HTML site would have been a maintenance nightmare. Next.js makes multi-language support clean and maintainable.
Better Developer Experience
Modern tooling means we can add new features and content faster. Writing blog posts, updating translations, and improving the site is now significantly easier. This means more frequent updates and better content for you.
Future-Proofing
The web development landscape evolves quickly. By moving to a modern framework, we've positioned ourselves to take advantage of new features and improvements as they emerge.
What Stays the Same
While the technology behind the scenes has changed dramatically, our core mission remains identical: providing a simple, focused, privacy-respecting sobriety tracker that helps you stay accountable on your journey.
The app itself hasn't changed—this update is purely about the website. You'll still find the same clean, distraction-free tracking experience in Sober Tracker that you've come to rely on.
Technical Details for the Curious
For those interested in the technical side:
- Framework: Next.js with React
- Styling: Tailwind CSS for responsive, utility-first design
- Animations: Framer Motion for smooth, performant animations
- Internationalization: next-intl for robust multi-language support
- Content: MDX for blog posts, allowing rich content with React components
Looking Forward
This rebuild opens up many possibilities for the future. We're planning to add more languages, create more educational content about sobriety, and continue improving the user experience.
If you have suggestions for the website or content you'd like to see, we'd love to hear from you. Your feedback helps shape what we build.
Thank You
To everyone who has supported Sober Tracker—whether you've been with us from the beginning or just discovered us today—thank you. Every day you spend sober is a victory worth celebrating, and we're honored to be a small part of your journey.
Here's to continued progress, one day at a time.
